Lebanon, the War of 2006 DAGENS NYHETER

The Lebanon war of 2006 was also called the Israel-Hezbollah War. It raged for 34 days. The conflict started when militants from the group Hezbollah fired at Israeli border towns and attacked on two armored Israeli vehicles patrolling the Israeli side of the border. Three israeli soldiers were killed and two Israeli were abducted by Hezbollah. Israel responded with airstrikes and artillery and fire on targets in Lebanon.

1300 died on the Lebanese side and 165 Israelis perished. Lebanese civil infrastructure was severly damaged. Around one million Lebanese and approximately half a million Israelis were displaced.
