The Iraqi War

The invasion of Iraq, led by British and US military forces, started march 20, 2003. The Iraqi capital Baghdad fell three weeks later and the dictator Saddam Hussein and his regime was toppled. The war was officially declared over on May first the same year but the fighting continued and morphed into a different mode. The different groups fighting the foreign troops, and each other, for power used guerilla tactics with improvised explosive devices as one of their main weapons. Saddam Hussein was captured by US forces in December 13th 2003 and he was executed three years later. The last designated foreign combat troops left Iraq in 2010 but hostilities and instability continues. The Weapons of Mass destruction that was cited by the US and British administrations as the main reason for the invasion were never found.
